Mechanical Maintenance Techniques: Transmission Components

This unit develops an understanding of the function, operation and routine maintenance requirements associated with transmission components. It is recommended that An Introduction to Mechanical Maintenance: Transmission Systems and Components is completed before undertaking this unit and that Mechanical Maintenance Practice: Transmission Components is completed in conjunction with this Unit.

Learning Objectives :

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Outline the function and operation of transmission components.
  • Outline typical signs of fault, damage, wear and corrosion in transmission components.
  • Describe typical routine maintenance requirements of transmission components.
  • Equipment – transmission components.
  • Routine maintenance techniques for transmission components.
  • Technical information and guidelines.

Teaching methods :

  • The course will be delivered by means of classroom lectures and practical workshop exercices.
  • Written questions could be supported by oral questions using equipment in the workshop – for example, identifying and naming faults or damage on a piece of equipment and/or describe the sequence of dismantling a piece of equipment.
  • Assessments can also be combined with other units where relevant, for example, Mechanical Maintenance Practice: Transmission Components.
  • Pre & post course tests are performed to measure knowledge acquisition.
