Mechanical Maintenance Techniques: Diesel Engines
This unit develops an understanding of the function, operation and routine maintenance requirements associated with diesel engines. It is recommended that An Introduction to Mechanical Maintenance: Prime Movers is completed before undertaking this unit and that Mechanical Maintenance Practice: Diesel Engines is completed in conjunction with this Unit.
Learning Objectives :
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Outline the function and operation of diesel engines.
- Outline typical signs of fault, damage, wear and corrosion in diesel engines.
- Describe typical routine maintenance requirements of diesel engines.
- Equipment – diesel engines.
- Routine maintenance techniques for diesel engines.
- Technical information and guidelines.
Teaching methods :
- The course will be delivered by means of classroom lectures and practical workshop exercices.
- Written questions could be supported by oral questions using equipment in the workshop – for example, identifying and naming faults or damage on a piece of equipment and/or describe the sequence of dismantling a piece of equipment.
- Pre & post course tests are performed to measure knowledge acquisition.
