Mechanical Maintenance Techniques: Air Compressors

This unit develops an understanding of the function, operation and routine maintenance requirements associated with air compressors. It is recommended that An Introduction to Mechanical Maintenance: Prime Movers is completed before undertaking this unit and that Mechanical Maintenance Practice: Air Compressors is completed in conjunction with this Unit.

Learning Objectives : 

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: 

  • Outline the function and operation of air compressors.
  • Outline typical signs of fault, damage, wear and corrosion in air compressors.
  • Describe typical routine maintenance requirements of air compressors.
  • Equipment – air compressors.
  • Routine maintenance techniques for air compressors.
  • Technical information and guidelines.

 

Teaching methods :

  • The course will be delivered by means of classroom lectures and practical workshop exercices. 
  • Written questions could be supported by oral questions using equipment in the workshop – for example, identifying and naming faults or damage on a piece of equipment and/or describe the sequence of dismantling a piece of equipment.
  • Assessments can also be combined with other units where relevant – this could include the following:
    • Mechanical Maintenance Practice: Air Compressors.
  • Pre & post course tests are performed to measure knowledge acquisition.
