Instrument and Control Maintenance Techniques: Distributed Control Systems

This unit develops an understanding of the function, operation and routine maintenance requirements associated with distributed control systems. It is recommended that An Introduction to Instrument and Control: Process Control Systems and Equipment is completed before undertaking this Training Standard and that Instrument and Control Maintenance Practice: Distributed Control Systems is completed in conjunction with this Training Standard.

Learning Objectives : 

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: 

  • Outline the function and operation of distributed control systems.
  • Outline typical signs of fault, damage, wear and corrosion in distributed control systems.
  • Describe typical routine maintenance requirements of distributed control systems.
  • Equipment – distributed control systems.
  • Routine maintenance techniques for distributed control systems.
  • Technical information and guidelines.

 

Teaching methods :

  • The course will be delivered by means of classroom lectures and practical workshop exercices. 
  • Written questions could be supported by oral questions using equipment in the workshop – for example, identifying and naming faults or damage on a piece of equipment and/or describe the sequence of dismantling a piece of equipment. If oral questions are used, a record of the questions, equipment and learner responses must be retained
  • Pre & post course tests are performed to measure knowledge acquisition.
