Electrical Maintenance Techniques: Generators and Voltage Regulation

This unit develops an understanding of the function, operation and routine maintenance requirements associated with generators and voltage regulation. It is recommended that An Introduction to Electrical Maintenance: Rotating Equipment and Tools is completed before undertaking this Unit and that Electrical Maintenance Practice: Generators and Voltage Regulation is completed in conjunction with this Unit.

Learning Objectives :

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Outline the function and operation of generators and voltage regulation.
  • Outline typical signs of fault, damage, wear and corrosion in generators and voltage regulation.
  • Describe typical routine maintenance requirements of generators and voltage regulation.
  • Equipment – generators and voltage regulation.
  • Routine maintenance techniques for generators and voltage regulation.
  • Technical information and guidelines.

Teaching methods :

  • The course will be delivered by means of classroom lectures and practical workshop exercices.
  • Written questions could be supported by oral questions using equipment in the workshop – for example, identifying and naming faults or damage on a piece of equipment and/or describe the sequence of dismantling a piece of equipment.
  • Assessments can also be combined with other units where relevant, for example, Electrical Maintenance Practice: Generators and Voltage Regulation.
  • Pre & post course tests are performed to measure knowledge acquisition.
