Electrical Maintenance Practice: DC Motors

This unit develops the skills required to carry out routine maintenance of DC motors in a training workshop, including preparation for maintenance activities, identification of hazards, using technical guidelines, preparing maintenance records and clearing the work area. It is recommended that Electrical Maintenance Techniques: DC Motors is completed before or in conjunction with this Training Standard.

Learning Objectives : 

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: 

  • Prepare to carry out routine maintenance on DC motors.
  • Carry out routine maintenance on DC motors.
  • Complete routine maintenance for DC motors.
  • Routine maintenance techniques for DC motors.
  • Routine maintenance procedures and workshop practice.
  • Safe working procedures/practices.

 

Teaching methods :

  • The course will be delivered by means of classroom lectures and practical workshop exercices. 
  • Written questions could be supported by oral questions using equipment in the workshop – for example, identifying and naming faults or damage on a piece of equipment and/or describe the sequence of dismantling a piece of equipment.
  • Assessments can also be combined with other units where relevant, for example, Electrical Maintenance Practice: DC Motors.
  • Pre & post course tests are performed to measure knowledge acquisition.
