Oil and Gas Processing Operations Practice (Gas Treatment)

This course develops the skills required to carry out gas treatment processing operations.  

It is designed for individuals wishing to progress to a career as a Process Technician and also would also be relevant for individuals who would like to develop a basics understanding of, and/or some basic skills in, processing operations e.g., Maintenance Technicians. 

Learning Objectives : 

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: 

  • Explain the need to treat natural gas and typical associated specifications  
  • Describe main gas treatment processes, associated operating parameters 
  • Explain steady state conditions and factors impacting performance 
  • Perform start-up, shutdown and routine monitoring of main gas treatment processes 
  • Outline operating procedures and operator duties associated to these processes 

 

Prerequistes :

It is recommended that learners complete the OPITO Global 1 Training Certificate: Basic Oil and Gas Processing or equivalent training before undertaking this Training Certificate. 

In particular, it is recommended that the learners have attended Basic Oil & Gas Processing Operations Techniques prior to attending this unit.

Teaching methods :

  • The course will be delivered by means of classroom lectures and practical exercises in the training workshop or on a real-life plant. 
  • Workshop/on-site practice content: 70% 
  • Pre & post course tests are performed to measure knowledge acquisition. 
  • Assessment are carried out in an oil and gas processing training workshop with access to functioning plant (real or simulated) and an integrated control room with some closed loop control. 
  • Learners are assessed in the role of a plant operator and in the role of a control room operator (CRO).
