Instrument and Control Maintenance Techniques: Programmable Logic Controller Systems

This unit develops an understanding of the function, operation and routine maintenance requirements associated with programmable logic controller systems. It is recommended that An Introduction to Instrument and Control: Process Control Systems and Equipment is completed before undertaking this Training Standard and that Instrument and Control Maintenance Practice: Programmable Logic Controller Systems is completed in conjunction with this Training Standard.

Learning Objectives :

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Outline the function and operation of programmable logic controller systems.
  • Outline typical signs of fault, damage, wear and corrosion in programmable logic controller systems.
  • Describe typical routine maintenance requirements of programmable logic controller systems.
  • Equipment – programmable logic controller systems.
  • Routine maintenance techniques for programmable logic controller systems.
  • Technical information and guidelines.

Teaching methods :

  • The course will be delivered by means of classroom lectures and practical workshop exercices.
  • Workshop practice content: Assessments can also be combined with other units where relevant, for example Instrument and Control Maintenance Practice: Programmable Logic Controller Systems.
  • Pre & post course tests are performed to measure knowledge acquisition.
