Basic Maintenance Hand Tools

This unit develops the skills required to use safely, care for and store a range of basic hand tools, identify basic parts and functions and select appropriate hand tools to carry out routine maintenance and workshop tasks.

Learning Objectives : 

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: 

  • Identify the use of basic maintenance hand tools
  • Demonstrate the use of basic hand tools for maintenance tasks and the production of an artifact
  • Demonstrate the care of basic maintenance hand tools
  • Types of basic maintenance hand tools, their uses and care requirements

 

Teaching methods :

  • The course will be delivered by means of classroom lectures and practical workshop exercices. 
  • Workshop practice content: observations of learners demonstrating the use of basic hand tools following safe working practices as they perform tasks in the maintenance training workshop. This will include the production on an artifact. Learners must be provided with drawings and instructions produced for the artifact.
  • Pre & post course tests are performed to measure knowledge acquisition.
